The Missouri State Fair celebrated Youth in Agriculture (YIA) Day Saturday, Aug. 17.  The annual Sale of Champions Auction was the highlight of the day, with money raised benefiting Missouri youth involved in agriculture.

Through the generous support of YIA sponsors, the Missouri State Fair is able to award scholarships to Missouri youth pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field. Last year, thirty-six $1,000 scholarships and one supreme $2,500 scholarship were awarded to youth across Missouri.  Since 1992, 436 Missouri youth have received more than $361,000 in scholarships.

This year’s bids totals $124,700.  30% of those funds will go towards the Youth In Agriculture Fund for future grants. Information to apply for the YIA grants will be available on line on the Missouri State Fair webpage starting November 1st, 2013 with an application deadline of the 1st of February, 2014.
