RAY COUNTY, Mo. — A new judge has been assigned to a multiple count child abuse case in Ray County.

On Thursday, Associate Carroll County Judge Joseph Donald McGaugh was assigned after a motion for change of judge by Gary Matthew Wyant, 32, of Lawson.

Wyant is charged with eleven counts of child abuse or neglect, tampering with a victim and tampering with evidence in a felony prosecution.

Two children who lived with Wyant told authorities that he would bind their hands and tape then inside cardboard boxes as ‘punishment’.

He also struck them with a special wooden paddle and his belt, according to prosecutors.

Wyant’s first hearing with McGaugh is scheduled for November 16.
