A shooting occurred overnight in Lafayette County

UPDATE: – 8 p.m.Higginsville police say their response to a reported shooting early Friday morning let to arrests. 

Police Chief Shawn Smith says police arrested two men Friday morning after a shooting at Break Time gas station on 13 Highway.  After crashing their vehicle in a nearby ditch, the suspects attempted to carjack a vehicle in the gas station parking lot, shooting at a victim inside a parked vehicle.  The suspects ran a mile down the road and succeeded in stealing different vehicle.   During a chase, police deployed spike strips to slow down the truck, before the police chief arrested the suspects. 

The victim is recovering at a hospital.  the names of those involved have not been released.

LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Mo. – Details are scarce in an alleged shooting that occurred in Lafayette County, early Friday morning.

Around 12:45 this morning, officers were dispatched to a shots fired report with a possible victim down. A Silver vehicle was being sought after it allegedly fled the scene of the shooting.

Just after 1:00 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle matching that description near Highway FF and Route E, North of Mayview. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled to westbound Interstate 70, where speeds were reported at 100 miles per hour.
