One day after a high-ranking employee resigned from the agency, Governor Nixon announced the immediate replacement of Dr. Jon Hagler. Nixon left no clue as to why Dr. Jon Hagler was replaced at his announcement. Hagler has been Ag Director for Missouri since 2009. He was immediately replaced with Harry Bozoian, moving from the Department of Natural Resources as Deputy Director.

On Thursday, Beth Ewers, the agency’s Associate Director of Meat and Poultry Inspection, resigned while distributing a letter to other employees and others outside the department. Ewers wrote that she was tired of “working in an environment of hostility, disrespect, intimidation and fear.”

“Jon has been a trusted friend and advisor for many years and I appreciate his unwavering commitment to the people of Missouri, especially our farm families and rural communities throughout the state,” Governor Nixon said. “During his tenure, Jon helped make the Missouri Department of Agriculture more efficient and effective, and played a vital role helping the agricultural community respond and recover from last year’s unprecedented drought. His service to the state is deeply appreciated and I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

Dr. Jon Hagler will continue in the department to assist the transition through the end of the month.
