Convicted sex offender wants bond lowered on new Saline County charges

SALINE COUNTY, Mo. – A convicted sex offender, accused of molesting a 15 year old in Saline County, is asking the court to reduce his bond.

A motion for bond reduction was filed Wednesday on behalf of Larry Wayne Powers, 51, of Slater. Powers was convicted of sexual assault in 1992 and thereafter required to register as a sex offender. In April of 2018, Powers failed to disclose several social media sites used to communicate on the internet. When confronted, Powers admitted to a relationship with an underage victim earlier this year. Powers is charged with two felony counts of Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy in the First Degree and one count of Failing to Register as a Sex Offender. Power’s next hearing is at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.
