KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — An outbreak of violent incidents on Kansas City’s Metro buses in July has drivers, police and bus executives looking for ways to protect drivers and passengers. The Kansas City Star reports the July incidents included the beating and stabbing of a bus driver, a shooting that wounded a young man and hurt others with glass shards, and an attack by a woman who doused passengers with gas and tried to light it.

BOLIVAR, Mo. (AP) — A southwest Missouri man accused of plotting to open fire in a movie theater will have his trial outside Polk County. A judge granted a change of venue to Henry County for Blaec Lammers. The 21-year-old Bolivar man is scheduled to go on trial in mid-December for allegedly planning to open fire on a local theater last November.

UNION, Mo. (AP) — A 23-year-old southeast Missouri man suspected in a road rage incident has killed himself after being stopped by a Franklin County deputy. The Washington Missourian reports deputies were called around 9:20 p.m. Friday by a man who said he was being followed by someone who had previously assaulted him. The unidentified caller said the man was trying to force him off the road. The pursuing driver immediately pulled over when deputies activated sirens and fatally shot himself near Robertsville.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — A federal judge says he will allow a man convicted of setting fires in the University of Missouri’s Ellis Library and a Stephens College building to represent himself during sentencing. Christopher Kelley says his appointed defense attorney was ineffective, but he can’t afford a different attorney. Kelley was convicted in April for setting the fires in 2011.

CANYONLANDS NATIONAL PARK, Utah (AP) — A 73-year-old missing hiker from Missouri has been found dead in Canyonlands National Park in Utah. Wayne County sheriff’s deputies say the man had been hiking alone and his body was found in Horseshoe Canyon on Saturday.

BUFFALO, Mo. (AP) — A southwest Missouri sheriff’s office is looking for a man who escaped from an Arkansas jail a week ago and is believed to somewhere in Dallas County. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office in Missouri says it was notified by Arkansas law enforcement that 33-year-old Derrick Estell is likely in the area of rural Buffalo and Long Lane and the Niangua River.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Ridership on Amtrak’s Missouri River Runner passenger trains between Kansas City and St. Louis has increased again. The Department of Transportation says nearly 197,000 passengers rode the train in the fiscal year that ended June 30th. State officials say better reliability likely accounts for the increased ridership.
