A press release from the Missouri Attorney General’s Office Tuesday indicates Ryan Ferguson will not face retrial in the death of a Columbia newspaper sports editor.

Last week the murder and robbery convictions in the Ferguson case were overturned by a state appeals court. Attorney General Chris Koster stated that after reviewing the decision and relevant evidence in the case he would not pursue additional legal action.

Ferguson was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the 2001 death of Columbia Daily Tribune Sports Editor, Kent Heitholt.
