The agenda included an increase in teacher's salary schedule, a presentation by FLBA students and a discussion of security upgrades.

The Board of Education for the Brookfield R-III District was in session Tuesday night. One presentation on the agenda was from Director of Special Services Denise Carlson, who spoke of changes for the 2013-14 year pertaining to early childhood special education.

BrookfieldMttng0521 1

The discussion on upgrades to security for the school including new doors, cameras, classroom radios and an access control system was tabled until May 30th. That allows Superintendent Barger to have final numbers on the 2012-13 budget to see if the system, that would cost just over $374,000, can be installed without borrowing money.

The board was also presented a proposal by the teacher’s for an update and slight increase in the faculty salary schedule, which the board approved. This approval is due to the board recognizing at least a 2% increase in state funding for the 2013-14 budget, bringing it to between $2.3 million and $2.5 million. The approval will also allow new teachers that are hired to bring their full salary schedule from their former school, as opposed to only being allowed a maximum of 7 years; this will be grandfathered in compensating current educators on staff.

Also during the meeting students with the FLBA gave a presentation of their trip to the FLBA state conference and 2013 graduate Micah Blakely thanked the board and district for the education that allowed him to be accepted into the Air Force Academy.

The next regular meeting of the Brookfield R-III Board of education will be June 25th and will include the fully detailed budget.

The incoming superintendent was recently arrested for theft and forgery.

The South Shelby School District is back to searching for a Superintendent after the incoming Superintendent’s arrest.

Mike Rennells, 34, of Grant City was set to take office July 1st. Last week he was arrested and charged with stealing and forgery from his current school in Worth County.

The South Shelby Board recently held emergency meetings to discuss its options moving forward. On Friday the board met for over two hours but did not come up with a timeline to hire Rennell’s replacement. They also rescinded a job offer to his wife to teach 6th grade.

The meeting Monday night will be to establish a timeline and discuss candidates for the Superintendent job.

Rennells is currently free on a $10,000 bond. The investigation into Rennells was prompted by charge discrepancies on a credit card issued by the Worth County School District.

Bruce Cole will have his location monitored at all times leading up to his trial for securities fraud and theft in February.

The case against former Mamtek CEO Bruce Cole was heard in St. Charles County Monday which included a request from Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster.

The request from Koster’s office was for GPS monitoring to be imposed on Cole to ensure his appearance at his trial for four counts of securities fraud and one felony count of theft. The judge ordered Cole to comply with that order within 14 days. Cole was already under electronic surveillance but it is land based and does not track his whereabouts outside the home.

The court has set the trial date for February 24th. Cole’s Company Mamtek, was set to develop an artificial sweetener factory in Moberly. That project fell through when Mamtek failed to make a payment on bonds issued by the city to fund the project.

Cole is accused of misleading city leaders and using funds for the project for personal use including a large mortgage payment on a Beverly Hills Home.
