An annual event is coming up in Chillicothe. Click to hear KMZU’s Brian Locke speak with Human Development and Family Services Specialist Jessica Trussel.
Trussel said the Back to School Bonanza has two purposes. “It is a school supply drive where we pass out supplies and back packs to the kids. We also arm them with information on nutrition, physical activity, and ways to prevent obesity. The purpose of this is so that our kids can be happy and healthy, and we can really keep them active and moving. It really gives them a great start to the school year.”
Trussel added she expects a good turn-out for the event. “We have seen an increase almost every year. The first year of the event we had about 92 students attend. If i had to guess i would say we’ll have about 375 to 400 students this year and there are parents on top of that. It ends up being a pretty large event.” She said, “We do ask that parents and children attend because we want to make sure that the families are getting that health and safety information.”
The event will be held at the YMCA in Chillicothe on July 31st. Donations are now being accepted.
