The third annual “Blow Cancer Away” banquet will be held Saturday evening. Click to hear KMZU’s Chelsea Wade speak with Monroe County Cancer Supporters President John Turner:
The event consists of a meal, a raffle, a silent auction, and a live auction. “Our first one two years ago, we netted about $13,000. Last year, our second year, we topped that substantially and netted about $21,000,” said Turner, ” This year we would hope that we could be over $20,000, but we’re totally dependent on the generosity of the folks who come, so we’ll take what we can get and be thankful.”
The Monroe County Cancer Supporters have been around for about three years. “What we do is try to provide financial assistance, nutritional assistance, transportation services, and service assistance to Monroe County residents who are dealing with a cancer diagnosis,” said Turner.
Doors open at 5:00 at the Madison High School. The meal starts at 6:00, and the live auction will begin after that.
