The Saline County Sheriff’s Office has been searching for a white female, Lydia Iliff in connection with a stolen truck, since Thursday morning July 5th. That truck was found about 12 o’clock that afternoon, but no one was located at or near the scene.
The sheriff’s office was contacted Thursday by the suspect’s family and they informed authorities that Lydia and her 18-month-old daughter were missing and Lydia was in need of her medication. Repeated searches of the area yielded no results.
Then Saturday night at 11:30 a citizen called the sheriff’s office and said Lydia was at their house and she was extremely disoriented, the child however was not with her; though the suspect stated she remembered that she had left the infant by the side of a creek.
Authorities immediately began a search of the nearby area, where they found the 18-month old child deceased on the bank of the Blackwater River early Sunday morning.
The Saline County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a full investigation and will give their report to the Prosecuting Attorney Monday for review.
