Plans to demolish the Wilton Springs bridge in Saline County have hit a snag. Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott speak with Presiding Commissioner Tom Stallings:
The bridge has been put on the BRO program. Stallings said this brings federal funds to the County to replace the bridge. During the process, it was brought to the Commission’s attention that, because the bridge was built in 1895, it qualifies as a National Historic Bridge.
The Commission must now allow an opportunity for organizations interested in saving the bridge to tear it down and move it. The County has hired a consultant for about $3,600.
The process should be delayed by about 60 days.
The bridge has been closed since about 2007.
