Week 8 of high school football action included the Chilhowee Indians on the road at Hardin-Central to take on the Bulldogs in an 8-man contest.

Chilhowee has struggled this season with a young squad and a few injuries at key positions coming into this match up at 1-6 against a solid Bulldogs squad who entered the night’s play at 6-1.

Chilhowee kicked off to start the game and Hardin took little time to put points on the board as Rhyler Estenbaum took it in from the 5 yard line for an easy 6 with 10:15 left in the first. The two point conversion was good and the Bulldogs were up 8-0 just two minutes into the contest.

Chilhowee would struggle with the rain including bad snaps, dropped balls and fumbles. That led to scores by Hardin Central on all but 3 possessions in the entire game. By the end of the first quarter quarterback Sean Utley would scramble in from the 35 with 6:03 left and from the 6 with 3:05 left in the first. In between those two scores, Estenbaum would take it in again from the 33. At the end of one Hardin-Central led 32-0.

Hardin would score immediately in the opening seconds of the second quarter on a 1 yard run by Chase Simms. That put the Bulldogs in complete command with a 38-0 lead.

Chilhowee would get its only touchdown shortly after as quarterback Daniel Harness connected with Aaron Norush for a 12 yard strike through the air. Chilhowee would fail on the two point conversion and trailed 38-6 with 10:12 left in the half.

From there on out it was all Hardin-Central with scores in succession. Estenbaum would take it to the house one more time from 19 yards out making it 46-6. Then quarterback Utley would score the next two on rushing plays from 16 and 14 yards out respectively.

Hardin-Central would also get a safety on a bad snap by Chilhowee at their 13 yard line. That was followed by a bad punt to Hardin, and on the first play after the kick; Gage Marshall would take it in from the Chilhowee 19. At the half Hardin was destroying the Indians 70-6.

In the second half the clock would not stop and Gage Marshall, on simple up the gut running plays, would tack on two more touchdowns from the 20 and 13 yard lines. The final score Hardin Central 82 Chilhowee 6.

The Indians fall to 1-7 and will host Northwest (Hughesville) next Friday to wrap up regular season play.

Hardin-Central is now 7-1 and will take a short trip down Highway 10 to wrap up their regular schedule with the Norborne Pirates next Friday.
