In the opening game between the ladies it was a sluggish first period and sloppy play by both teams kept the score tied for nearly half of the first period at 4 each. In the second period the nervous jitters on both teams melted away as rhythm was established in both teams passing games. By the half the Lady Bulldogs led 17-16.
The second half was as expected energetic; both teams would tie often and exchange several leads. However, Norborne struggled at the foul line and were never able to separate from Hardin-Central and then team leader Cheyenne Baxter fouled out with three minutes left in the game. Hardin-Central had already given the Lady Pirates fits underneath as well as on the perimeter with Baxter on the court but with just three minutes left Hardin Central would capitalize on Norborne miscues and fouls to eventually pull off a 48-38 upset on the road.
Norborne was led in scoring by Megan Mertensmyer who dropped two 3 pointers and went 2 for 3 from the foul line. Cheyenne Baxter would struggle at the foul line going 4 for 7 leaving the game with 8 on the night, followed by Devanne McCoy with 7 points.
The Lady Bulldogs spread the ball around with Olivia Ellis putting up 12 on the night followed by Kasi Arbogast with 11. Arbogast went a strong 5 for 6 from the foul line.
In the boys game Hardin-Central would jump out to a 17-4 lead after the first period and that was as close as the Pirates would get. The Bulldogs intercepted countless passes and the Pirates struggled with lay ups that were too heavy, bouncing off the glass into the waiting arms of the Bulldogs.
At the half Norborne trailed Hardin-Central 33-22 after a late scoring spurt in the second period.
In the third period it fell apart for the Pirates as they would be out played in all phases of the game. At the end of three it was over with Norborne down 64-33. The Bulldogs would eventually go on to an 80-40 victory.
Norborne was led in scoring by Tristan McNelly with 8; he would eventually foul out in the fourth. He was followed by Jacob Uribe with 7 points and Ross Lyon put up 6 going 2 for 4 from three point range.
The Bulldogs got on the back of Clif Kugler with 17 and 15 from Hank Bowers. The scoring after that was well spread out with 12 points from Wyatt Craven and solid contributions of 6 each from Hank Bowers and Lane Coldiron.
