One of the lesser known events at the Ozark Empire and the Missouri State Fair is the Hay Show. University of Missouri Livestock Specialist Eldon Cole says the annual contest dates back to 1985

The entry deadline for the state fair is July 27th. County extension agents will assist with the collection and submission process.

Those test results will account for 60-percent of the hay score. The final assessment will include other characteristics..

The deadline for entries to the Springfield fair is around the 10th of July. Close of entries for State Fair is July 27th. On a related note, a lot of Missouri hay was shipped to Oklahoma and Texas last year due to the extensive drought. Ongoing dry conditions in the show me state this year has reversed that trend with Cole expecting a sizable amount to be imported into the state.
