Carroll County Road Reopens

ST. JOSEPH – Carroll County Route C, between County Road 141 and County Road 151, has reopened, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. The bridge had been closed to make necessary repairs to the girders that had been found during a routine bridge inspection.

This is just one example of how the department works to keep highways and bridges in as good shape as possible, for as long as possible, with the dollars available. However, MoDOT’s construction and maintenance budget is about half what it was two years ago. And, MoDOT is trying to fund today’s needs essentially with the same budget it had 20 years ago. As costs continue to rise, and funding levels continue to decline, the department will have to make difficult choices and Missourians will need to decide what kind of transportation system they want.
