Case accuses defendant of covering for illicit sexual relationship

UPDATE: 11/10/2017 9:13:13 a.m.– Michael Sweet, yesterday, appeared in person and by counsel but remains in custody as court proceedings continue.

Sweet waived the reading of formal information in open court and entered a plea of not guilty on the formal conspiracy charges.

The hearing was continued to Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at 9:00 a.m., in Carroll County Circuit Court.


CARROLLTON, MO – A Hearing is scheduled for a LaPlata man accused of rape in Carroll County.

The court date Thursday will take up a case against Michael Sweet, who was accused with his wife Lynn, of contributing to continuous sexual encounters with a juvenile.

According to a probable cause statement, a consensual relationship between the alleged victim and Lynn Sweet occurred from April to May of 2016 at a residence in Bosworth. Michael Sweet had knowledge of the relationship, encouraged it, and attempted to cover it up, according to prosecutors.

The hearing is scheduled for 9:00 a.m., Thursday, November 09, 2017.
