A former Kansas City Police Sergeant charged in July 2012 with stealing more than $75,000 from his 67-year-old mother waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday and his case was bound over to circuit court.

Mark Stinson, 44, was entrusted with his mother’s finances for a two year period beginning in 2008.  Prosecutors allege he misappropriated funds and used the money to take care of his own personal debt and finances.  Stinson was listed in court documents as her durable power of attorney when she went to stay in a nursing home.

Stinson faces up to four years in prison if convicted.  He is currently free on $10,000 bail.  Stinson is due back in court on May 2 at 9 a.m.
