University of Central Missouri left handed pitcher Zach Davis, from Carrollton, was selected in the 25th round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Saturday by the Houston Astros, with pick # 736. Davis becomes the 31st Mule drafted by the major league and becomes the 56th to sign with a major league franchise. Davis was a second team ALL-MIAA selection as a relief pitcher. He was 3-2 with a 1.98 ERA and 12 saves, helping the Mules to a MIAA regular season championship. His 12 saves are the 2nd most in a season at Central Mo and his 19 career saves is tied for 2nd most in program history. He struck out 51 batters in 41 innings and limited opponents to a .178 batting average. Houston is owned by former UCM All-American pitcher, Jim Crane.
