Child Abuse Case Nearing Trial

A Columbia woman indicted by a grand jury in the death of an eleven-week old infant has two court dates before her trial in January in Cooper County.

Treschell Kemp, 24, is charged with involuntary manslaughter, domestic assault, endangering the welfare of a child and abuse of a child – resulting in death and has pleaded not-guilty.

Kemp has been jailed since December on a $250,000 bond. Her appearance Friday will be for a hearing at 9 a.m. The hearing has been postponed on two different occasions.

Judge Robert L. Koffman has scheduled a jury trial for January 15 with a pre-trial conference scheduled for December 23rd.
