The House of Hope Shelter is seeking donations of Christmas gifts for more than 25 families currently under their services. Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott talk to advocate and volunteer coordinator Christal Milligan:
Milligan says the gifts will be distributed to those they serve who, due to their current situation, might not be able to do the shopping themselves. “Holidays are difficult for families struggling with domestic violence, especially those that have to leave their home to escape the situation,” said Milligan,” In many cases, the mothers do not have the money to purchase gifts for their children and, even if they do, it’s not safe for them to go to a store. We just want to be certain that they have a nice holiday season.”
According to Milligan, the gifts do not have to be expensive. “We ask for items such as craft sets, dolls, videos, and even Wal-Mart gift cards or movie passes for the teens,” said Milligan,” Watches, nail polish, and pajamas are always popular gifts with the kids. For the women, we are looking for things such as bath gels, lotions, towels, and robes.”
Donations may be dropped off at the House of Hope main office located at 301 Broadway in Lexington. For pick-up arrangements, please contact the office at 660-259-4766.
