An Oak Grove man who injured more than a dozen people when he slammed into a hay wagon was sentenced Thursday to seven years in prison. Prosecutors said Kaylon Childers, 27, was drunk and driving with a revoked license when he struck the tractor in Oct. 2011. He pleaded guilty on April 26, 2013 to four felony counts of assault and one misdemeanor count of driving while revoked. Childers was also charged with driving while intoxicated, but that count was dropped.
Two children were critically injured and several others were hurt in the accident on Route H, near Interstate 70 in Oak Grove. The Missouri Highway Patrol said Childers tried to flee the scene and had a history of driving while intoxicated. They also said his blood-alcohol content was nearly three times the legal limit at the time of the crash. According to online court records, Childers had four previous drunk-driving convictions.
