The group discussed an ordinance draft regarding building inspections. “This would require a structural engineer inspection every ten years. And then an annual inspection by the local people, the City employees,” said Merritt, “And the inspections will be paid for by the City. They will not be a cost to the property owners.

The proposed ordinance will be reviewed by staff, and brought before the Committee again at their September 12th meeting.

“What we’re striving for is to find the problems in the buildings and get them fixed before they fall down.”

The Committee also discussed the next neighborhood cleanup. It will be the fourth such event organized by the group. This one is scheduled for September 2oth. Volunteers are welcome. Those arrangements can be made by contacting Jaime at City Hall. That number is (660) 827-3000.
