Columbia Police Department respond to shots fired, search for suspect continues

COLUMBIA, Mo. — The Columbia Police Department are searching for a suspect involved in a shooting today that occurred on Grand Avenue in Columbia.

According to a press release, Boone County Joint Communications was notified of a male shooting at a vehicle near the 1200 block of Grand Avenue at 11:24 a.m. When officers arrived, multiple shell casings were found, but the suspect or the vehicle involved had fled the scene.

After a preliminary investigation, officers found that a vehicle was traveling on Grand Avenue when  suspect in an alleyway began firing rounds at it. An occupant of the vehicle returned fire and fled the scene. No injuries or property damage has been reported.

Moberly Area Community College was notified and immediately put on lockdown.

The suspect is being described as a young, black male. He is around 6 foot tall and has a slim build and was last seen wearing white pants and a dark colored sweatshirt.
