Confirmed: Shooting in Chillicothe

Update (6:30 a.m. Thursday) - Press Release from the Chillicothe Police Department: On Wednesday, February 6th, 2013 Officers were dispatched to Hedrick Medical Center Emergency Room in regards to a female subject with a gun shot wound. It was reported that a 23 year old female sat down in the driver’s seat of a pick-up truck, while it was parked at the 600 block of Webster Street. She then scooted herself towards the middle of the truck and picked up a 9mm handgun that was lying on the seat, which she believed was unloaded. As she placed the gun on her lap, she accidentlly shot herself in her groin area. She was later transported from Hedrick Medical Center by EMS to N. Kansas City for further treatment.

Original Story – A KMZU listener has reported a shooting in Chillicothe.  According to the caller, the woman was taken to Hedrick Medical Center after the incident around 6:00 Wednesday evening. It is not currently clear if the shooting was intentional. We will bring you more information as it becomes available.
