The Chillicothe City Council heard a construction update on the new hospital facility during Monday night’s meeting. Click to hear KMZU’s Kristie Cross talk to Hedrick Medical Center CEO Matt Wenzel:
The focus of attention at the site will soon move indoors. “In March, we will finish up with the steel and concrete and start work on the inside of the facility, ” said Wenzel, “This will include electrical, plumbing, and interior finishes. That work will take up up to December of this year. Hopefully at that time, we’re able to start moving equipment in and orienting staff.”
Once complete, the new facility will provide additional options for their patients. “We’re able to offer a high level of care now and that will be maintained at the new facility. One of the changes that the community will notice is that it will be much more patient friendly. Our current facility was built when in-patient services were more prominent. While that’s still a priority, much of our business is done on the out-patient side and we need to make those services more accessible.”
The $42 million hospital and medical office building is expected to open in early 2014.
Dear Chillicothe Neighbors and Friends;
Now that the holidays have come and gone, I wanted to take this opportunity to share with our neighbors what’s been happening with the construction of the new Hedrick Medical Center, and let you know what is coming next.
In my last update, I spoke about preparation of the ground for the foundation concrete work and steel framing. Now, the facility is really starting to take shape. If you’ve had a chance to drive by the construction site recently, you’ll notice the concrete and steel framing is nearing completion. We’ve certainly had some cold days and a few snowy days, but the contractors have been working hard and we’ve been able to stay right on schedule.
Structural steel work has been ongoing since November and should be completed by early March. Concrete slab-on-grade should be completed by the end of February, while the concrete slab-on-deck (slab being poured on the second floor) has recently started and is expected to be completed by early March. The exterior framing and enclosure will begin in February and continue for the next few months. During that time, other interior work will begin, including mechanical duct work, electrical, plumbing, fireproofing and interior framing. Coordination meetings with the City, the contractors, the engineers, and the architects are still taking place on a monthly basis to ensure we all stay on the same page and on schedule.
It is great to see the excitement building around the community and from patients and employees. Our hospital employees are finalizing interior furniture and equipment layouts and have been coordinating that information with the contractor. I think we are all starting to sense the reality that a year from now, we will be preparing to open the doors to a brand new, state-of-the-art healthcare facility. As always, feel free to visit the project website, www.healthychillicothemo.org, for more detailed information. You can view updated photos of the facility, watch a video animation of the facility rendering, and stay up to date on project news.
