Court hearing Wednesday for accused murderer in Benton County

BENTON COUNTY, Mo. — A resident of Lincoln accused of murder will be in court for a hearing Wednesday afternoon.

William Heffernan, 21, allegedly shot and killed Caleb Shephard, 27, in a mobile home community near Lincoln on January 12, 2017. Heffernan is charged with felony second degree murder, felony tampering with physical evidence in a felony prosecution as well as an additional felony for armed criminal action.

Heffernan is currently behind bars at the Benton County Jail. Bail has been set at $50,000, reduced from $100,000 earlier this month.

Heffernan is slated to appear before Judge Mark Pilley for a preliminary hearing at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.
