Credit Card Scam Reported in Boonville

A credit card scam has recently been reported in the Boonville area.  Click to hear KMZU’s Kristie Cross talk to Lieutenant Randall Ayers:

So far, the only report has come from an area merchant.  “They’re asking for a copy of their statement, “said Ayers,” They tell them they’ve been overcharged, but if they get a copy of the bill they will overlook some of the charges.”

The company reportedly goes by the name Credit Card Association.   According to Ayers, this is a phishing scam attempting to collect personal information.

The lieutenant said the crime is very difficult to track and often remains unsolved; however, he stressed it is still important to contact your local law enforcement agency so others can be warned of the scam.
