COLUMBIA, MISSOURI (DEC. 19, 2012) – The Missouri Cattlemen’s Association (MCA) announced Dr. Merrill Townley as the 2012-2013 Pioneer Award winner at the MCA 45th Annual Convention and Trade Show in Columbia, Mo.

The Pioneer Award is presented to an individual who has been a strong leader for not only the beef industry but for MCA.  According to MCA Executive Vice President Mike Deering, this person exemplifies what it means to get your hands dirty and help move the association forward.

Townley was a board member of MCA. He raised hogs and cattle as he worked his way through college and continued to raise cattle as he practiced veterinary medicine in Osage, Gasconade, Cole, Miller, Callaway, Moniteau, Montgomery and Maries Counties. Townley passed away Nov. 6, 2012, at the age of 78.

“MCA needs more members like Dr. Townley,” said past MCA Regional Vice President Morris Westfall. “His dedication will always be admired.”

Close to 400 cattlemen gathered in Columbia for the 45th annual event.
