An Independence woman turned herself into authorities on Friday.  Mary Ward, 32, is facing a felony theft/stealing charge.  She is accused of taking funds from an account while serving as treasurer for the Blue Hills PTA.  After another individual took over the position, a $22,000 discrepancy was discovered.  Ward reportedly presented the board with a monthly spreadsheet of account activity, but did not provide actual bank statements for review.  Ward’s bond is set at $20,000 and court proceedings have not yet been scheduled.
