RAY COUNTY, Mo. — An Excelsior Springs man is being held on $100,000 bond after charges were filed against him following an alleged incident Tuesday.
According to a probable cause statement, Ray County sheriff’s deputies were called to the 13000 block of Klatt Road in Excelsior Springs at approximately 6:04 p.m. Tuesday to reports a man had pointed a gun at a child.
When officers arrived, they were informed by a witness that Duane R. Loomis, 57, had pointed a handgun at a child who was under the age of 12.
The probable cause statement alleges the firearm was loaded with a live round of ammunition during the incident.
The witness was able to intervene and the child was able to go inside a residence. When officers arrived, Loomis had an empty firearm holster and said he had taken the gun back inside his home to avoid further incident.
Loomis is now charged with one felony count each of first degree endangering the welfare of a child, creating substantial risk, no sexual contact; armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon – subsection 4 – exhibiting.
Loomis is currently in custody at the Ray County Jail, held on $100,000 cash only bond. Future court dates have not yet been set.
