An Odessa man will no longer be in court Friday, after his attorney filed a motion for an extension to file the brief. Joseph Sprofera, 46, is appealing his 2012 statutory rape conviction, which landed him a life sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Sprofera has been charged in three cases involving sex with a minor. He was first convicted in 2010 and again in 2012.  Sprofera was found guilty of statutory rape in the 2010 trial and received seven years in the DOC. The charges stem from acts allegedly carried out in 2000 and 2002.

The motion hearing has been extended to the July 3.
