The annual First Lady’s Pie Contest is coming to the Missouri State fair again this year. Click to hear KMZU’s Mandy Young talk with Director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture Jon Hagler:
“The First Lady’s Pie Contest is kind of a time-honored tradition at the Missouri Fair. First Lady Georganne Nixon has certainly headed that up and fluffed it up so it is a great highlight for the fair every year,” Hagler stated. “This year you have all the way until August the first to enter your pies. You can enter them in two different contests, whether it is the soft pies or the fruit pies.”
The contest itself will take place at the Home Economics Building on August 15th at the Missouri State Fairgrounds.
“They get some celebrity judges in there and there are a lot of things going on the Home Economics Building that day,” added Hagler. “There are a lot of opportunities to interact with the people who baked the pies, sharing recipes. ”
All entries for the contest are due by Monday, August 1st. To find an application for the contest, go to www.mostatefair.com.
