Sheriff George was the longest serving sheriff in U.S. history until his resignation Monday, February 8, 2016 as part of a plea agreement.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.- A former Sheriff of Saline County is due in federal court tomorrow for sentencing on allegations of stealing nearly $80,000 in public funds.

Wally George, 70, before resigning his position last February, had been Sheriff of Saline County since 1979. George plead guilty last year to one count of stealing from an organization that receives federal funds.

As part of the plea agreement, George, who reportedly paid over $51,000 in restitution to Saline County on February 5th of 2016 and nearly $28,000 to the state of Missouri on February 9th, was required to resign as sheriff.

George will appear in the Federal Courthouse at 11:30 a.m, tomorrow in Jefferson City.
