Officials are hoping to generate information to assist with the development of future services in the area.  “Right now, we are working to get some programs started,” said Backus,”We would like the community to let us know the  interests and biggest needs in the county.”

Backus said there are a wide range of options available for the future facility.  “We are trying to focus on youth and adult sports, senior programs, and childcare,” said Backus,”Even art events and family programs are a possibility if there is interest in those areas.”

The survey is just one portion of the Y’s preliminary phase.  “We are currently seeking a location and are in the process of hiring a director,”said Backus.  She expects both of those things to happen relatively soon.  Programs are slated to get underway as soon as a director is hired.

While a permanent YMCA building is the ultimate goal, that is not in the immediate plans.  “We are looking for office space,” said Backus,” We aren’t wanting a gym right now because, in the beginning, we will utilize schools, churches, and other facilities already established within the community for those programs.  So, for now, the location will be office space for the director and a place for people  to get program information.”

The survey can be found by visiting www.carrollcountyareaymca.org.  It’s important to note that an email address is required.  For those without email access, paper versions can be obtained at local school district offices.  The deadline for submission is Friday, February 8, 2013.
