The Partners for Odessa Parks is accepting donations to bring improvements to some of the outdoor community facilities.  Chairman Cinda Dowell says a grant request for the work was denied so they’re seeking contributions from area residents and businesses.

“With the help of a local contractor, the challenge has come from them in that they’ll provide the labor, equipment and some of the materials if we can raise the funds for the remaining materials.”

According to Dowell the full project should cost an estimated $84,000.  The assistance of a local contractor has knocked the amount they need to raise by December 15th down to $40,000.

Dowell says they’ll use the funds to ”complete the walking trail out south of town and the other project is to convert our old tennis courts there at Dyer Park in the main park to 3 outdoor basketball courts.”

Tax-deductible donations can be dropped off or mailed to the parks department at 601 West Main – Dyer Park Odessa, Mo 64076.  Call 816-633-8324 for additional information.
