Tina-Avalon was on the road Friday night at Hardin-Central to take on the Bulldogs in a boys & girls doubleheader.
The Lady Dragons have struggled in the first part of the season with a 2-5 record and the Lady Bulldogs would not make it any easier for them. Hardin-Central employed the full court press to devastating effect taking the Lady Dragons out of their game. Turnovers were the key and the Ladydogs of Hardin took advantage putting up points and getting out to a ten point lead by the end of the first period. The battle between Ashley McCraken of Tina and Hardin’s Macy Foster was intense, with Foster playing tight coverage, tangling with McCracken several times including one collision that both players were slow to recover from.
Olivia Ellis led the charge for the Ladydogs who would go on to beat the Lady Dragons 52-27.
The boys contest would start at a furious pace and end with the same frenetic urgency by both teams.
In the opening minutes of the first period the Dragons and Bulldogs were neck and neck with several even scores and several lead changes . Then Clif Kugler stepped up his game at the post putting up three straight lay ups and drawing a foul each time. Kugler would turn those into three point plays with solid appearances at the foul line putting the bulldogs up by ten. At the half turnovers put the Dragons in a 15 point hole trailing 31-16.
The second half would see the Dragons battle back within as little as eight; but the Bulldogs answered and did what was needed defensively to hold off Tina-Avalon who would fall 52-40.
Wyatt Craven led the Bulldogs with 14 followed by Clif Kugler with 13. Hardin-Central is now 8-5 on the season with a trip to Norborne ahead on January 8th.
The Dragons were led by Daniel Luckett who put up 12, with nine points from Lane Mathews who was impressive in his rebound efforts and hustle on offense, but the dragons fall to 5-6.
