Harlan Wins Public Speaking Contest

Two local students competed Saturday in the District 2 American Legion Oratorical Contest in Chillicothe.  Trey Van Houtan, of Chillicothe, and Katy Harlan, of Salisbury, were tasked with delivering a memorized, four to six minute speech on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution.  Harlan qualified for the “Zone 1 Contest.”  She will compete again on Jan. 20 in Hannibal.  The winner of that competition will move to the state contest, which is being held in Jefferson City on Feb. 16.
