Hearing for Teacher Accused of Rape

A former Kearney Junior High teacher is scheduled to appear in a Clay County courtroom Thursday afternoon. Rhett Rigby, 25, is accused of maintaining a sexual relationship with his 14-year-old student from October 2012 to last May.

The Oak Grove resident has been charged with a total of eight felonies, including statutory rape, statutory sodomy, and tampering with a witness. Rigby’s hearing gets underway at 1:30 p.m.

He is free on bond of $100,000 and has pleaded not-guilty.
