The 9th annual High School Holiday Hoops, sponsored by the NCMC Foundation is returning to the North Central Missouri College Campus. Organizers promise this will be bigger and better then ever. The 2013 edition will feature 47 high school teams, both boys and girls, from across Missouri taking part in ten days of exiting high school basketball. The Shoot-Out type event is being held December 20-21, December 23, December 26-28, December 30-31, and January 2-3, 2014.

“The event is held primarily to serve many different purposes, “touted event coordinator Steve Maxey. “We were looking for a way to bring high school basketball teams together to offer a fun, good program on the campus of NCMC where students would have the opportunity to face teams they don’t normally face.”

Maxey says the annual event is managed by a fourteen member committee and they are looking for additional involvement this year from corporate partners making each day a special day hosted by regional businesses. This will include the addition of prize drawings, special entertainment and added income to support the growing program. Additionally, the committee continues to entertain first time schools that offer exciting play by their ball clubs and increase the marketability of NCMC to prospective students looking for a great place to start their college education.

Contracts are already being extended for 2014, which will be the 10th anniversary for this event, as well as the 2015 challenge.

In order for “Hoops” to continue to be a success, hundreds of volunteers will be needed and recruitment has begun for anyone interested in team hosting, managing the score-book and game clock, gate volunteers and hospitality. Success of this event also relies on many individuals and businesses to finance the event.

Holiday Hoops is sanctioned by the Missouri State High School Activities Association. Trenton High School serves as the liaison between the college foundation and the MSHSAA for sanctioning purposes.
