Highway 11 Bridge Project Off Again
ST. JOSEPH, MO – The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced that the Chariton County MO 11 bridge closure has been delayed. The bridge closure was set to begin on Monday, August 27 but will now be delayed until further notice. The BNSF Railroad bridge located five miles north of Mendon was set to close earlier in the month but was delayed when migratory birds were discovered on the bridge structure. After further investigation this week by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service it was determined that there is still bird activity on the bridge structure which will prohibit the start of construction. MoDOT will advise the public as soon as possible when a new date of closure has been set.
This project is being completed under the Missouri Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program. This is the final bridge to be completed in the Northwest District. Upon completion of the MO 11 bridge 190 bridges will be completed in Northwest Missouri.
