Troop B of the Missouri State Highway Patrol is preparing to host a two-day event for area high school students. Click to hear KMZU’s Chelsea Wade talk to Sergeant Brent Bernhardt:
Bernhardt said it’s an opportunity for those involved to get a brief taste of the law enforcement world. “They’re going to be learning a little bit about patrol history and they will shoot firearms in our indoor range,” said Bernhardt,” They’ll learn about traffic safety, marine operations, stop and approach, and crime scene investigation. This is just a few of the topics that will be covered during these sessions.”
The program is being offered to juniors and seniors in high school who may be trying to determine a potential career path. “We’ve had students who obviously didn’t proceed with law enforcement or go on to obtain a degree in criminal justice during their college years,” said Berhardt,” However, this did give them an opportunity to see an overview of what law enforcement is all about and specifically the Missouri State Highway Patrol.”
“We do, though, take recruiting very seriously,” added Berhardt,” We are aware that this is the time when current juniors and seniors need to be looking at career opportunities.”
The sessions are scheduled for March 16th and March 24th from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Troop B Headquarters in Macon.
Those interested are encouraged to apply by visiting troop headquarters at 308 Pine Street in Macon or by calling 660-385-2132. Applications must be received by February 15, 2013.
