Flanagan says, in the case of a kitchen accident, the Red Cross app available on smartphones could be useful.  It is available through the app stores the the phones.  To prevent having to use the app, Flanagan recommends using common sense in the kitchen, like turning off burners when leaving the room, keeping kids out of the kitchen, and avoiding baggy clothing that could get caught on a burner.  A full list of safety tips is available at redcross.org.
