SEDALIA, Mo. — A Hughesville resident was arrested in Sedalia and charged with multiple gun and drug-related felonies, according to a probable cause statement.

A Sedalia police officer conducted a traffic stop just before 1 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at the intersection of East Broadway Blvd. and South Thompson Ave. The suspect, 27-year-old Jason Shields, was pulled over for improper registration. During initial contact, the officer spotted a pistol in the vehicle, which Shields claimed ownership of. Shields also was a fugitive with an out-of-state felony warrant, meaning he could not legally possess the firearm.

A vehicle search found methamphetamine, marijuana and a meth pipe on Shields’ person, in addition to two firearms in the vehicle.

Despite claiming he found the meth while walking down the street prior to the arrest, Shields was charged with three felonious counts of possession of a weapon and a felony controlled substance in addition to three counts of felony unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance.

He was taken to the Pettis County Jail, where a $100,000 cash or surety bond was set.
