A man accused of killing two women has died four days after attempting to commit suicide in the Clay County Jail. Deputies found Derek Richardson, 27, in his cell at about 10 a.m. Monday. He was taken to an area hospital where he died on Thursday. His death is still under investigation.
Richardson was charged with the deaths of two known prostitutes Nicoleone Reed and Tamara Sparks. He allegedly dumped their bodies along rural roadways in the Northland. Authorities said an unusual canvas-style Croc shoe found at one of the murder scenes led to his arrest.
