Johnson County Jail Seeks Expansion

The Johnson County Commission is hoping to remodel a jail storage facility so they can house 30 more prisoners.  Click to hear KMZU’s Sarah Scott speak with Eastern Commissioner Scott Sader:

They hope to convert a gym that currently serves as storage.  Sader said it would be much cheaper than constructing a new facility.  Johnson County has an opportunity to house inmates from Lee’s Summit and Independence.  This has the potential to bring in an extra $400,000 to $500,000 for the county.

They are currently accepting bids, which are due April 1st.
