The Katy Depot in Sedalia has kicked off the annual Mitten Tree project.  Spokesperson Kathleen Boswell says the drive helps keep the smallest Saline County residents warm…

“You know that there’s little kids that are going to be cold this winter, and mittens are so easy to lose anyway that you kind of need a new pair every year, So we’re working to gather mittens and gloves.”

Donations can dropped off at the old train station or at Rock-N-Rollers hair salon on Ohio Street in Sedalia.  Boswell says the local community shows a lot of support for the annual drive…

“We usually end up with over two-thousand items that we give and probably close to 50% of that is gloves and mittens.”

The winter clothing is distributed to children through the local school district.
