Richmond won the opening tip-off but both teams had first possessions that resulted in turnovers. Carrollton got on the board first with a 10 foot jumper from Erin Thoeni and then a three pointer from 20 feet out by Hunter Summers; Summers would drop three of the bombs on Richmond in the first half. That would grow as Richmond could not hold on to the ball long enough to mount an offensive run. Carrollton capitalized off the Lady Spartans miscues and went up 30-15 at the half.
That 15 point lead became a 20 point lead early in the third; however Richmond would toughen up on defense and force Carrollton into turnovers and battled back to within 11 by the end of the third period.
Carrollton would settle down in the fourth and Richmond knew time was running out committing a series of penalties that put Junior Caitlan Ehlert at the free throw line several times. Ehlert would do her job and go 6/7 from the foul line in the second half and ended the night 7/8 from the line. This put Richmond down by 19 and that’s how the game would end with the Lady Trojans over Richmond 58-39.
Richmond was led in scoring by Emma Long with 15. Richmond is now 3-7 with a road trip to Holden Thursday night.
Carrollton was led in scoring by both Hunter Summers and Caitlan Ehlert with 18 each. Carrollton improves to 3-6 with Lexington coming to town Thursday.
