CLINTON COUNTY, Mo. — A driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel and collided with another vehicle Friday morning in Clinton County.

A report from the Missouri Highway Patrol indicates that a car driven by 66-year-old Lathrop resident Joyce J. Erickson was eastbound on Route 69 at Highway 116 about six miles east of Lathrop at approximately 7:55 a.m. Friday.

Erickson was slowing on 116 to make a right-hand turn onto 69 when she was struck in the rear by a sport-utility vehicle operated by 23-year-old Justin M. Hicks, of Polo. An investigation found that Hicks had fallen asleep at the wheel just before the accident occurred.

A passenger in Erickson’s vehicle, 69-year-old William S. Erickson, also of Lathrop, sustained moderate injuries in the crash. He was taken by ambulance to Liberty Hospital to receive care.
