Lexington Council Approves Purchase of Police Vehicles

The Lexington City Council held a special session Tuesday night to discuss the purchase of police vehicles.  Click to hear KMZU’s Chelsea Wade talk to Mayor Jerry Brown:

According to Brown, he and the council did not agree on how the situation should be handled. “I had vetoed this ordinance because I didn’t feel this was the right way to spend citizens’ money,” said Brown,” We have to borrow some to get these cars in. Then we would sell the cars to other agencies that wanted to buy them once we had our new ones in service.  The council overrode my decision and said they wanted to go ahead and buy them.”

Brown says the acquisition will now fall into the capital improvements budget. “We will probably have the money within 30 days,” said Brown,” So, by the early part of January they should be in our police department’s hands.”
